What is Shopobot?

Most comparison shopping sites only give a current snapshot of prices online. At Shopobot, we thought that wasn't enough to really empower consumers. In response we decided to show not just current prices, but prices over time, so users could get the best possible deal, say, on that new camera or iPod.

One of our most popular features makes getting the right price even easier by letting you set up price alerts. So, for example, if you want that new mp3 play for $100, you can set an alert - and we'll email you when we see the right price for you.

How do price alerts work?

It's very simple to create a price alert on Shopobot!

1. Create an account.
2. Find the item you're interested in by browsing or by searching. (Search using the text area in the top right of every page.)
3. Under "Price Notification" select the price you'd like to pay, if you'd like to include used (second hand) items as well and click ok.

We'll email you now as soon as we see your target price (or less).

What does Sales Rank mean? Is it upside down?

We present sales rank as an inverted graph because an item that is selling well will actually have a low sales rank. For example, if the Nintendo Wii is the top selling item on Amazon, it will be #1. Compare that with an item that is ranked #100. We wanted the Wii to show a high rank, and the less selling item to show a low rank.

Sorry, no, you will have to recreate your price alerts using your real email address. :-(

Do you refund my money if the price drops on my recent purchase?

Sorry, we do not, we're for information purposes only. Please contact the merchant directly to request a refund of the difference in price. A note on Amazon.com: some people have reported that Amazon is less likely to give out price drop refunds lately - but others have still had luck getting a refund. We can't guarantee it'll work for everyone, but it's still worth a try!

Where does the name Shopobot come from?

Shopobot is a portmanteau of 'Shopping' and 'Robot' -- as you can guess we chose this name because we automate part of the process of shopping.
